Southwest Airlines announced plans to add additional flights to bring football fans to and from the Super Bowl football championship in Atlanta.
The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League. It arose as the result of the merger between the NFL and its rival, the American Football League, in the 1960s.
This year’s Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, February 3 and feature the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.
On February 1, the Friday before the game, the airline will double the number of flights it operates from Boston and Los Angeles to Atlanta, an addition of two and one flights respectively. It will also add one additional flight from St. Louis, operating five instead of its usual four.
On Monday, February 4, the airline will operate the same number of return flights.
“These extra flights meet higher demand as fans make plans to follow their teams to Atlanta to watch the biggest football game of the year,” said Brook Sorem, the airline’s senior director of network planning.
